Question by Elder Akewi to Angela Davis:
“I heard you speak on NPR, I think it was like a week ago, and I was really moved about how you were speaking about trans rights…How do you go about making sure that your movements and your justice and your compass continues to evolve and continues to include all of the different isms that we keep uncovering?"
Response from Angela Davis:
“There are new ideas in the world, and those ideas have emerged largely because young people who stand on our shoulders, and we always like to use that metaphor, but if we examine the metaphor, if they're standing on our shoulders, that means that they can see a lot further than we can.”
*this video and its contents have NOTHING TO DO with the ‘On Their Shoulders’ program put on by Magistra Shupp and the Scarborough High School Civil Rights Club. and Maine Initiatives Magistra Shupp took this moment without crediting me and as she says, her 24 years of education experience are what make the program, not the fact that the grant and program were couched in a question and answer moment that have NOTHING to do with her or the Civil Rights Club.
